3 Boldmere help Solihull to League Success

Solihull became British Water Polo League men’s champions last weekend when they defeated Manchester 7-6 in the final round of Super Five matches.

Solihull entered Division 5 of the BWPL in 2012 with a young team and gained successive promotions through the divisions finishing 3rd in their first year in Division 1 last year. This year they have stepped up further and clinched the title. They still have a relatively young squad with 7 of the 13 players used this season being 21 or under.

All of the players live in the West Midlands and play locally in the Midland Water Polo League mostly for Solihull with the addition of 3 from Boldmere and 1 from Coventry. Coventry women's team were also competing in their BWPL Super Fives finishing 4th. Sky TV filmed the weekend’s matches and will be airing two programmes of highlights in the near future - one for the men and one for the women

Emily joins the Swim England Para Swimming Talent Development

Congratulations to Emily Surgeoner who has been invited to join the Foundation level of the Swim England Para Swimming Talent Development programme. She has had a great year starting with the Dual Para-Swimming Development Meet in March where she swam well and got a place medal and improved from there onward. She swam her first 400m Freestyle in May at the East Midlands Para Regional Champs and winning a number of medals including a Gold in the freestyle relay. She went on to qualify and compete at the English Federation of Disability Sport Junior Nationals swimming 3 PB’s and winning bronze and silver. Emily then continued to train hard throughout the summer and autumn, swimming 3 out of 5 pbs at the Boldmere Open.

Emily is now swimming a regular programme of races being the 50, 100 & 400 free 100 Breast and 100 Back as these are her Para Pathway events at the moment, and she qualified from the Boldmere Open to swim all five at The Para Winter Short Course Nationals on 9th and 10th of December. What a great weekends swimming she pulled out of the bag, swimming 4 out of 5 pb’s only missing out on the 50 free by 0.1 of a second and winning the 400 freestyle in the 10-13 age group despite being only 10, and having cut 55 secs off her time from her first 400 in May. Subsequently her performances were noticed by Swim England and to round the year off fantastically Emily has been invited to join the Foundation level of the Swim England Para Swimming Talent Development programme.. Well done Emily.
